4 WAYS TO BUILD SOLID RELATIONSHIPS

Do you ever go to a social event and watch people? I mean just watch how they interact with each other. You pretty much see two types of people.

There are those that are “people magnets” and then there are those that are “people repellants”. Of course, as network marketers, we want to get to the status of become people magnets. But how?

One of the things that your average person lacks is the fact that we don’t take responsibility for the relationships in our lives. What I mean by this is we want people to approach us by “an act of nature”.

In general a lot of us don’t initiate a relationship at all. According to John C. Maxwell, in order for you to have a solid relationship that brings fulfillment, you have to change your mindset when it comes to dealing with others.

Here are four ways he came up that will help you:

PLACE A HIGH VALUE ON PEOPLE

You want to expect the best out of people. Assume that their motives are good unless they prove otherwise. Give them your friendship rather asking for theirs.

LEARN TO UNDERSTAND PEOPLE

Listen to people. The best conversations are the ones about the other persons. Keep in mind the following truth’s about people:

- People are insecure……give them confidence.
- People want to feel special……sincerely compliment them
- People desire a better tomorrow……show them hope
- People are selfish….speak to their needs first
- People get emotionally low….encourage them
- People want to be assicated with success…..help them win

GIVE RESPECT FREELY BUT EXPECT TO EARN IT FROM OTHERS

Give respect to others, but this doesn’t give you the right to demand it in return. You have to earn it. If you respect yourself, respect others, and exhibit competance, others will almost always give you respect.

COMMIT YOURSELF TO ADDING VALUE TO OTHERS

The best way to do this is to add value by:

- Looking for ability in others
- Helping others discover their ability
- Helping others develop their ability

If you want to make relationships a priority, you must check your motives to be sure you are not trying to manipulate others for your own gain.

IT’S NOT SALES, IT’S NETWORK MARKETING!!

Has this ever happened to you? You approach someone, build a little rapport, find out what their problem is, expose them and tell them that you’re in network marketing, and they tell you “This is sales and I don’t like selling.”

How many times have you heard something similar to this?

Quite a few huh?

Also you may have exposed someone that’s been in sales and they tell you that they’re tired of doing sales and this opportunity wouldn’t be right for them.

Some people think because they have been in sales that it automatically qualifies them to become successful in network marking.

That’s not always true.

But let me ask you this. Do you know what marketing is, let alone network marketing?

Is there actually a difference?

It most certainly is!!!

It’s surprising but a lot of us involved in this industry do not know this.

As a matter of fact there’s a lot of people that’s been in the industry for over 10 years and still try to “SELL” instead of market.

So what is the difference? Let’s break it down

I’m an IT (Information Technology) guy, and according to the technological viewpoint, networking is a way to connect to workstations and servers in order to exchange information and establish relationships.

According to this industry, it’s a way to connect with people in order to exchange information and establish relationships.

Now for the difference between marketing and selling.

Selling is the act of meeting your customers demands by matching the products and services that you offer. In order to do this a sales person uses the sales concept to persuade or convince the customer to buy.

Marketing, on the other hand, supports the efforts of sales. More listening and two-way communication are involved in marketing. Sometimes they would do surveys in order to figure what customers are looking for and which demographics, cultures, race, etc.. prefer certain products or services.

It includes the following:

1. Figuring out what products or services consumers want
2. Creating a products or services accommodating those wants and needs
3. Pricing those products and services correctly
4. Promoting those products and services, and explaining why the customer should buy
5. The use of “Sales” can be used here at this point, but not in network marketing

So basically marketing is figuring out what your prospect is looking for in order to see what you have matches their wants and needs. If it does then you expose it to them. STOP RIGHT THERE!!! THAT’S MARKETING!!! ANYTHING BEYOND THIS POINT IS SELLING!!

So if you were ever involved in sales and worked for a company, all of the marketing and promotions were already done for you. The marketing portion makes the sales go a lot smoother because the customer already has an idea of what they want when they get to your establishment from all of the advertisements.

ANOTHER GREAT WAY TO TARGET SPECIFIC BLOGS

When I started looking for ways to better my business I looked in two places: Google and YouTube. What I found was a lot of information on network/internet marketing.

I ran into a lot of new terms such as attraction marketing, backlinks, social bookmarking, etc…and although I know what these terms mean now, back then, the information was overwhelming.

The one great thing I like about blogs is that they are short and usually talk about one subject. So if I wanted to find something about attraction marketing, usually a blog will focus on that subject.

Another great thing about blogs are the comments as long as they’re valuable. I look at them as the extension of a blog. If a person added a valuable comment, I would go into their blog and see what I can learn from them. If I found some amazing information in these blogs, I would go ahead and share them.

It has gotten to the point to where I prefer to read blogs over listening to training calls, or even audio CDs. It feels like I gain more value with blogs and yet I get to know the person.

One site I discovered through reading blogs, would be considered a blogging community site. I found it very helpful and convenient.

This site works with google and you can actually target the blogs that you want to read!!

Let’s just say that you want information about feedreaders for your blog. You can actually type this in, and this site will do a google search. Once its done, it list some of the top sites that you can go to about feedreaders.

You can also check the rankings of these blog sites if you go to http://www.alexa.com. The better the ranking, the more traffic the site gets and the more that you’re exposed via your valuable comments.

Comment Luv is the site I’m talking about and if I was you, I would go ahead and create an account. It has more beneficial features that you can learn about.

THE POWER QUESTIONS EQUALS SPONSORING

“The name of the game is sorting through people, amateurs try to convince, professionals sort. We are all looking for the RIGHT PEOPLE at the RIGHT TIME in their life” — Dale Calvert, Network Marketing Guru

This is a great quote, but this quote brings to mind on how we prospect. Do you find yourself trying to convince people that you have a great opportunity or do you sort through your list of prospects to see if they’re qualified to work with you?

The one thing that gives our industry a bad rep is that a lot of us tend to try to convince someone to join us in our business venture without trying to get to know them and see what they’re looking for. That makes us appear to be selfish salespeople.
Plus a lot of people don’t like to “sell”. If they see you trying to convince them to get into business with you, then more than likely they’re going to be turned off by it.

So what do you do?

How can you actually sponsor someone into your business whether it’s online or offline without convincing them?

Simple, get to know them. Building a relationship is key in network marketing. If you want control of the conversation, be a great listener and ask questions about them. But if you find yourself doing most of the talking then they have control of the conversation.

Ok, you’ve been there and done that?

So you’re probably wondering how do you get to the part of sponsoring someone into your business.

Well here’s a sleight of hand move.

Ask them what they do for a living or any question pertaining to their employment.

These types of questions are your Power Questions!!

Some Power Questions Are:

What do you do for a living?
How long have you been working there?
What does your position entail?
How do you like your job?

This will be your pivotal point of the conversation to determine if you can expose them to your business or not. If they’re happy where they’re at in their life, by all means do not keep bugging them about your opportunity. But if they’re looking for something better so they can make extra cash, take advantage of tax benefits, or maybe have more time to spend with family and friends, then you may have the right candidate.

So the next step is to get their information. So if you’re offline marketing ask for a business card, if your online ask for their number and email address. If you have a capture page, shoot your link to them.

If you notice there was no mention of your opportunity and you know a lot about your prospect. This is all from that pivot point of building that relationship, the power questions.

A MUST HAVE TOOL TO ATTRACT LEADS!!!

These are all great tools right? But why is it that so many people that have these tools still aren’t finding success in their business?

These are legit tools to use for your business. As a matter of fact some people have found a lot of success using these tools. But the problem is that it’s a minority of people.

So what are the majority of people that have these tools are doing wrong? If these leads are suppose help attract people then why aren’t a lot of network marketers having a lot of success?

Back in the 90’s there use to be this commercial for basketball shoes (I believe it was Nike). They had this famous slogan “It’s all about the shoes”. Just from this, a lot of people would go buy basketball shoes, get to the basketball court and “trust” that their shoes will make them a great basketball player.

Now I’m not the greatest basketball player, and I shouldn’t be judging, but a lot of people who bought into the slogan and bought the shoes sucked at basketball.

Why did they suck?

Because they didn’t practice to develop themselves into a great basketball player. In order for you to be great in something it takes practice and dedication. You have to work on yourself to become great and no pair of basketball shoes isn’t going to do it.

This goes back to the title of this post. A must have tool to attract lead is YOU!! You gotta develop yourself into something attractive in order to attract leads.

How do you do that?

Through personal development books and audios, sharing valuable information with others, visualization, PMA (Positive Mental Attitude), autosuggestion, and a positive belief system.

A DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVE ON SUCCESS…

What does success mean to you?

Is it just obtaining that financial goal you dreamed of?

Or maybe it’s getting to a specific level in a particular career, sport, etc…?

Or maybe it’s purchasing that one car you always dreamed of.

The misconception about success is that many people believe it’s only obtaining that end result and that’s not true. It’s way more than that.

I meet and rub elbows with successful people everyday online and offline. As a matter of fact successful people read my blog posts everyday.

Yes, I’m talking about you!! Even further, a lot of successful people comment on my posts and share the information with others.

You see, the one thing I like about team sports is that they work together to obtain a goal. But the key is that they work together.

But how do they get to the point to where they become professionals in their sport and get the opportunity to play with their fellow teammates who are also professionals?

We see all of the glitz, glamour and “Bling Bling” but the one thing we tend to look over is the hard work behind this.

You see people like a Lebron James, Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Wayne Gretzsky, and Joe Montana work hard to get where they’re at. But it’s not just about the hard work.

It’s more than that! The one thing that made them who they are and help them attain their status was an effective daily routine. Yes a simple effective daily routine!

A couple of blog posts ago I talk about learning how to play the piano. My teacher gave me some exercises to do in order to become great. Now I know how to play 4 genres of music.

So lets go back to you reading this blog. Is reading blog posts and commenting a daily routine of yours? If so, then that’s success!

It’s not just obtaining your goals. It’s that process which is the effective daily routine that you have in order to obtain your goals.

Once people see how consistent you are, then you will start to become attractive. Our goal in this industry is to become attractive, but we got to put in the effective daily routine in order to attain it.

So what is your daily routine? What are you doing to attract the right prospects to you? What are you giving on a daily basis that’s of value in order to attract?

Here’s some of the things I do on a daily/weekly basis!

1. Share valuable quotes on a daily basic
2. Commment on blogs on a daily basic
3. Put out valuable content on my blogs every week
4. Read about new marketing tools every week
5. Share other people’s valuable content every day

If you don’t have an effective daily routine then these are some of things you can do in order for your to attract people to your business. Keep doing these things and you’ll see the difference in your business!!

To Become A True Leader, First Start With Becoming An….

What is an Avatar? Here is http://www.dictionary.com’s definition

Avatar:
an embodiment or personification, as of a principle, attitude, or view of life.

As you probably already know I dance salsa just about every weekend. The one thing that a lot of people don’t know is that there are about 7 different styles of salsa.

I dance 3 of those styles which are L.A. Style, NY mambo style and Cuban style (which is where I’m strongest in). In order for you to know the difference you have to really be into the salsa scene.

This is where the term Avatar comes in. I got the inspiration from Fred Williams blog post on figuring out the avatar of your customers or target market which is a really great post. Go to his blog called Anatomy Of An Avatar – Who Are You Marketing To?

I first start dancing salsa in 2005 and as time progress my style became more and more Cuban. Part of it is because of the way I naturally dance and the other part of it is because I started hanging around more Cubans and listen to more Cuban music.

So pretty much everywhere I go people would assume that I’m Cuban. As a matter of fact, they will come up to me and start speaking Spanish. So everywhere I go I attract a lot of Spanish speakers, specifically those from the Caribbean.

Although I go to the L.A. salsa clubs where everyone dance L.A. style, I tend stick out because I dance Cuban salsa. This most definitely draws attention and from time to time people would just come up to me and ask if I teach.

Now think about this for a minute. Despite my natural ability to dance, I hung out with Cubans and listen to Cuban music. I started dancing like Cubans so every salsa club I go to they assume that I’m Cuban. I’m American but I also would be considered a “Cuban Avatar” according to the definition.

Now lets take me out of the picture and put you into the picture. What if you want to be this great leader and attract all of these other great leaders and they ask you to teach them how to be a great leader. What do you think you would have to do to get to this level?

Well maybe you need to start hanging around other leaders, read leadership books, listen to audios on leadership, go to webinars on leadership, go to conference on leadership, and when it comes down to it, just live and breathe leadership by becoming its avatar!!

By becoming it’s avatar you’ll start to feel like a leader, speak like a leader, walk like a leader, and the list goes on and on. Once you get that going you will be transformed into a leader. So what are you waiting for? Why are you procrastinating? Do what you have to do to become a leader!

KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE PRIZE RESULTS IN…..

SUCCESS

In June of 2006 I ran into my co worker’s husband at my job. We started talking and I found out that he taught piano to elementary school kids and for as long as I could remember I always have wanted to learn. We exchange numbers and by the next month I was learning under him.

I was so excited and wanted to learn all of these different songs and was hoping to become a “professional” within a short amount of time. He told me to do these series of exercises on a daily basis.

For those that understand music, he told me to practice my major and minor scales, blues scales, circle of fifths exercises, chromatics, arpeggios, and a couple of practice riffs everyday for at least 30 minutes. And as you know this can become quite tedious and boring.

Now at first I was really excited because everything was so new to me, but after doing it for months and months, I didn’t really see the point of it. It had gotten real boring and I felt like I was not going anywhere.

By November of that same year, I wanted to learn how to play Vince Guaraldi’s “Linus and Lucy” from the Charlie Brown cartoons. For those who don’t play the piano you have to train your left hand to play one rhythm and your right hand to play a different rhythm. The notes and rhythm in this piece are syncopated which can be a really big challenge and at the same time you have to keep both hands in sync with each other.

I practice just the first part of this piece for about a month and finally got it down. It felt like all blood, sweat, and tears but I finally got it!!!

Since I work in a school district I would practice in the high school choir room. Sometimes the choir teacher would walk in to listen, and he would give me some tips. After he heard me play the first part of Linus and Lucy he gave me a lot of compliments and told me that he could never play Linus and Lucy because of it’s syncopation even though he’s been playing piano for over 40 years.

This was a great shock to me but yet motivational. I figured since he plays piano very, very well, especially in the classics, he would know how to play this song quite well. But like they say, to each his/her own.

Now I can play a variety of genres such as jazz, salsa, blues, R&B and I really thank my piano teacher for telling me to do those simple exercises to get to the point I am today.

This post wasn’t to impress you but to impress upon you on what it takes to become successful. It’s your daily steps and your daily routine that you have to take in order to reach your goals.

Perseverance is the key that’s going to take you up that yellow brick road to success. So keep putting out those positive quotes, keep writing in your blogs, keep calling your prospects, keep meeting people online and offline, just keep doing what you have to do and at the same time for your motivation keep your eyes on the prize!!!!

A SLEIGHT OF HAND MOVE TO MARKETING YOUR PRODUCTS

What’s the worse thing about going to the mall? I mean, think about it, what’s the most irritating thing about walking through a mall?

Well for me it’s being pestered by someone I don’t even know about trying their products and you know who I’m talking about. The one’s that have some products made from ingredients from some far away land or country.

They start out with likes like “Can I ask you a question”, or “I got something I want to show you.”, or “Let me show you something”. And if you agree to go along with them, they ask you a variety of four to five questions to see how they can sell you.

I do have to admit though, I do admire they’re persistence and will power in trying to sell their products. Plus they got the part right about asking questions since selling is the art of solving problems through asking questions and listening.

But the one thing I was trying to figure out is how can they make their approach better in order to pique more interests… hmmm?

Well one strategy I learned from reading sales and marketing books and listening in on trainings is by giving something of value away and not expecting anything in return. Sounds cheesy?

Well, before you come to any conclusions I like for you to check out this article by Robert Strong entitled How To Get Your Prospects To “Steal” Your Advertising – And Travel Around The World With It!

This is a pretty nifty strategy isn’t it? It’s non threatening and the majority of people you market to will not instantaneously put up their defenses. Now Imagine if those same people in the mall use the same strategy. Do you think they will get more sales????

THE PSEUDO-SUCCESS STORIES….BEWARE!!!

A couple of blog posts ago I wrote a post called “OK, I’M CALLING MY PROSPECTS…..NOW WHAT DO I SAY” where I introduced two relationship building formats called FORM and CAPI. These are great tools when you use them and it sets a comfortable ambiance for you and your prospects.

Now these aren’t the only two tools out there. There are a plethora of formats that are similar to these two. By the use of these formats it shows how well you build relationships and how successful you are. Just about all of your MLM leaders use some form related to these two tools.

The problem is there are those that claimed to be successful, but yet do not use anything related to these tools to build great relationships. So can you really call them a real, true leader if they don’t use any of these tools? Is it true that they are successful?

Now if you been in network marketing for a while you know that there are certain characteristics of a true successful network marketer. Like anything, there are certain rules that someone would follow to be successful in this industry.

For those new network marketers in the industry I encourage you to read my post on the two relationship building tools I mentioned. I also came up with a list of things to be cautious of:

1. If someone tells you they’ve been in the business over 10 + years, but yet do not use a similar tool as FORM or CAPI to build a relationship with you.
2. If they ask you what you’re goals are or your why for starting a home business and you tell them, they’ll say you’re goals or why are wrong (This is bad coaching)
3. If they’re trying to sell you who they are by telling you how much they make
4. If they bash your online business after you tell them what business you’re in
5. If they don’t show any type of concern to help you with your business
6. If they volunteer to tell you how much their company gross and about their retention rate
7. If their only concern is to convince you to join their company
8. If they been in the industry for 10+ years, but yet are close-minded to other marketing strategies

These are some of my experiences in dealing with people that say they have reach a lot of success and are earning residual but yet their leadership characteristics do not show for it. If they don’t use any of the relationship building techniques similar to FORM and CAPI when they first talk with you, then you can honestly say that their “Success” is questionable.
